assignment #2 -photo compare and contrast

This is a peony that is growing in the garden. I like how the ants take care of the peony and are always on the plant. I like the light on the second shot of the peony and how the ant is challenging the fly.

  1. The little ants look like they are on top of the world.
In the second photo where you mention that the ant is challenging the fly.. the fly looks microscopic compared to the ant. I think it has to do with the angle that you took the photo.

  3. I think that these photos are great, not only do I love peonies, but your compositions are well thought out, and especially the bottom photo is strong because the leaf draws the eye across the bottom of the photo. I think that these garden photos are excellent and I can't wait to see more.

  4. I adore peonies, my mom always used to grow them at my childhood home :)

I also like the second photo more, I love how your focal point is off-center and partially obscured by the frame of the shot. The line created by the leaf and that beautiful triangle in the lower right corner really add a sharp point to an otherwise round shape. Having only the ant and fly on the petal portion of the bud is very minimalist and gorgeous all around. Awesome work! :)

  5. I like the second shot a lot more. I am a big fan of a more dramatic composition. I also like the lighting of it. along with the super short depth of field. The one ant on the top if the flower is very interesting to me.

  6. Ekta,

Timing is everything. You were there at the right moment. The ants were invading the blossoming flower. I am in awe of the fact the ants look so clear. I would like to see this picture in a National Geographic magazine.
    Great Job. Angela
