Final Project: Photo Story

Photo 1:

I cropped this picture in and strengthened the saturation so the colors would stand out more.

Photo 2:

I used two filters on this picture. I used the magic wand to select the flag and I used the ripple filter, then the shift filter. Next I used the magic wand again to select the area surrounding the flag and darkened through light and contrast. Finally I inverted the selection so I had the flag and I increased the saturation.

Photo 3:

I cropped this picture down and used a filter to sharpen. I increased the brightness and saturation and decreasing the light and contrast.

Photo 4:

I used the clone tool to erase a person’s foot behind the subject.

Photo 5:

I increased the saturation and created another bar so it looks like a frame. I selected the bar on the left with the magic wand, copy, past, then moved it over and fixed the transparency. Finally I decreased the brightness in the right bar so it appeared set apart from the background.

Photo 6:

This picture I altered using the Iwrap filter. I made the swirls by holding the mouse down and crossing it over the picture.

Photo 7:

I selected the flag, pole and green tent, inverted the selection then used the wave filter. I also increased the saturation.

Photo 8:

I used the clone tool as well as the magic wand to select different parts of the photo. I used the blur and smudge tool to distort the people’s faces behind me as well as altered their clothing so the picture would demonstrate complementary color scheme.

Photo 9:

I cut and past the dragon boat and dragon head. Then I used a lot of cloning because I only had a small part of the boat. So I created the rest of the boat so it would reach across the picture.

Photo 10:

This picture represents a complementary color scheme. I used cloning to eliminate a trashcan on the grass and increased the saturation and contrast while decreasing the brightness and light.

Photo 11:

I selected the two flags from two other pictures and then copied them in using different layers. I increased the saturation to bring out of the color of the sky and flags. This photo displays the rule of thirds.

Photo 12:

I cut and past the dragon boat and head from photo 9 and pasted it onto the picture. Then I increased the saturation.

Week 11: Portraits

A Friend of mine. I asked him to pose, the white background wasn't the best but there wasn't another color wall. I guess the tricky part for me was how much of his torso I was going to include when taking the picture. I knew I wanted a head shot, but determining how much body was difficult. let me know what you think.
I had a lot of fun with this one. It was hard to get a good background, but this one is interesting enough; I just hope it doesn't take the focus away from the subject.

Cloning

Here is the one I cloned; I took out the stems and cropped it. This is the original.

Week 9: Dodge, Burn and Filters

This picture I altered by filtering it as well as saturating and dodging it.
The picture above I used burn to darken the sky to bring out the clouds. I also saturated it and put more blue. I filtered everything but the dome.
For this picture I filtered the background using wave.
Below are the originals.

I edited the photo above: I brightened it as well as used saturation to bring more color in. I also brought the contrast up.
This is the original photo.
I changed the background to a grey scale and then altered the color of the daisy. It reminds me of the flowers in the movie Avatar when the everything glows in the dark.
This is the original photo of the daisy.

I used Gimp to alter these photos. The photo above I cropped and changed the contrast and brightness. The photo below I took four photos I had taken and layered them on top of each other.

For this last photo I took out the telephone wire and enhanced the background using Gimp.

Framing picture slideshow

Week 5: Composition, Aesthetics, Framing and

"The photographer has almost as much control over his subject matter as a painter. He can control light and shade, form and space, pattern and texture, motion and mood, everything except composition" ~ Andreas Feininger

This is my picture I chose to illustrate composition. Composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements, ingredients or parts in a work art. I like that there is a center as well as other eye-catching parts like the bees.
Aesthetics refers to the beauty of nature captured in all types of art. This is a tiger swallowtail butterfly. While I was standing taking pictures of the flowers this butterfly landed and stayed long enough for me to take this picture.
The Rule of Thirds (aka golden rule): divide the picture into thirds so there are 9 boxes. When the subject of the picture isn't in the middle box then the rule of thirds has been followed. I Like how the photo above shows more light and a calm mood from the clouds while the photo below has a darker tone to it from the dark clouds at the top. These are my framing shots. This first one is taken in Stowe VT.
This is the upper waterfall at jeudevine falls in Hardwick VT. This is taken in France while I was on a boat tour.
This was taken in a museum I went to while visiting France.
These next two are of the Eiffel Tower; First in the daytime and second when it was lit up at night.

Sunday, June 20, 2010

I took this photo in the morning when the sun was shining. These next two where taken at noon right after it had rained. I did end up using flash for the close-up below. This last picture was taken at dusk.

complementary color scheme

Week 4: Light and Color

Monochrome: While walking through the woods I saw the light coming through the trees and surrounding the ferns with gold-white glow. I like how the tips of the ferns are almost white while the dense undergrowth behind is close to black and in between are many different greens; some with sunlight and others in shadow.
Analogous: This is Elmore Mt. and the sun's light made the clouds turn these beautiful colors

I ended up taking more close-up photos inside, so I made another collage.

assignment #2 -photo compare and contrast

This is a peony that is growing in the garden. I like how the ants take care of the peony and are always on the plant. I like the light on the second shot of the peony and how the ant is challenging the fly.

I took this today in the garden.

Hyde Park VT. I took this photo one evening when passing through Hyde Park. The color of the sky behind this church was so breathtaking I wanted to picture it so I could save that sky forever.
I took this in Paris at the gardens at Versailles in the summer of 2007.

I took this picture around 6 O'clock when I got up for school a couple of years ago. I saw this sky and ran inside to grab my camera so I could take a picture. In the background on the left is Elmore Mt.
I took this picture with my old camera a couple years ago in the summer.

This summer I am taking a digital photography class at the Community College of Vermont. I am currently attending Colby-Sawyer College in NH.
