I edited the photo above: I brightened it as well as used saturation to bring more color in. I also brought the contrast up.
This is the original photo.

  1. It is definitely a good choice to increase the saturation in nature photos, a really vibrant color is somewhat expected of growing things! It's closest to what we see in real life. The one recommendation I have for it is darkening the bark down a little bit after increasing the brightness and saturation - the highlights on the bark are strong enough they detract somewhat from the focus being on the leaf. Good job!!

  2. This example as well as the other one are both wonderful. I must agree with Sarah, that if you darken the bark a bit you'll have a much more effective photo. I would like to see you push the parameters of the tools a little bit more, and present them so you and the class can see the extremes to which you can go. Keep up the great work.
